In August 1781, General George Washington's army-camped in Ardsley and Dobbs Ferry-started a march along what is now Ashford Avenue, continued to what is now Broadway, crossed the Hudson River....and marched to Virginia where they defeated the British army under Cornwalis. The Village of Dobbs Ferry and the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society co-sponsor the annual Road to Freedom Walk.
